How We Select Products to Review
We focus on products that are:
- Available in the UK and EU - Our primary audience is based in the UK, so we prioritise products that are easy to find here.
- Popular in the curly community - We review products that people are actually talking about and using.
- Interesting formulations - We look for products with notable ingredient profiles, whether that's innovative new formulas or classic staples.
- Range of price points - We review budget, mid-range, and premium products to serve all budgets.
How We Test and Review
Our reviews are based on:
- Personal testing - We use products ourselves over multiple wash days.
- Community feedback - We gather insights from the wider curly community.
- Ingredient analysis - We examine ingredient lists using our in-house knowledge.
- Value assessment - We consider price per use, not just sticker price.
We don't use numerical ratings that pretend to be scientific. Instead, we focus on describing who a product is best for and when it might not work.
Our Affiliate Relationships
Full transparency: curls.guide is reader-supported. When you click on product links and make a purchase, we may earn an affiliate commission at no extra cost to you.
This helps us keep the site running and continue creating free content. However, affiliate relationships never influence our reviews or recommendations. We recommend products we genuinely believe in, whether or not they have affiliate programs.
Products we receive for free or as samples are always disclosed in reviews. Our honest opinions remain unchanged regardless of how we obtained a product.
